“Caught My Eye” Prints
In 2022 I traveled to Costa Rica for an intimate wedding in the jungles of Jaco. The day we arrived we stayed at a hostel in town where we drank fresh juice on the beach, ate at local mom and pop restaurants, and hiked to an abandoned mansion. I was amazed by all the tropical plants flourishing in their natural habitats, recognizing them from my failed attempts of keeping tropical houseplants alive in my dry Colorado environment. We were waiting for our ride from our hostel to our luxurious hotel where the wedding was taking place when a plant caught my eye. I was drawn to the neon pink edges of the leaves, which after some research I identified as a cordyline red sister plant. It was hard to believe something so fluorescent existed in nature. I quickly snapped a photo, threw my giant backpack in the car, and we headed up the mountain to start celebrating our friends love. There we floated in the picturesque infinity pool, indulged in delicious food and drinks, and danced the night away. I knew once I got home that I wanted to paint this plant asap.
This piece is printed with an inkjet printer on cold press bright, an archival quality watercolor paper with an 3/4" border.
