“Meet Me in the Clouds”
Acrylic and resin on wood panel
12x16”
2023
I wanted to paint some really colorful sunset clouds, the kind that stop you in your tracks and make you fumble around looking for your phone. Only to be disappointed when you remember it never translates to your screen. What I love about sunsets is the impermanence of it all. I hope after taking your photo, put your camera in your pocket, and just have a moment to be present and take in the magic. Because we all know that in a few minutes the colors will fade and soon it will be dark again.
This piece also represents my love for travel and how it inspires my creative practice. Once I painted the background, I knew it needed a plane in that corner riding into the clouds. For me I always feel refreshed creatively after getting out of my comfort zone and traveling someplace. Exposing myself to new people, sights, ways of life. Staying in motion. These are all huge inspirations for me that don’t always translate directly into my paintings, but in how I talk to myself and view my creative work.
This painting is a reminder to be present while in motion and take in the beauty that surrounds you.
