2024 Ornaments
This years ornaments are inspired by my recent obsession with frames and several pieces I painted this year!
Fruit was a big theme for my art in 2024. The beginning of the year was full of stress and grief for me. So when I turned to my art practice as a way to escape, fruit seemed like a safe place to land. Something classic I could focus on, just to get my hands moving. I didn’t have a ton of mental headspace for complex paintings but I really enjoyed the rich and vibrant colors of oranges, cherries, and pears.
Playing with different techniques to fill the background of my pear painting, I also found myself enjoying abstract painting. I made just a few ornaments to represent that playful way of painting.
This summer I started doing a challenge with my friends to eat 30 different fruits and vegetables a week. Through that challenge I discovered that while I was painting plenty of fruit, I really wasn’t eating any! Terrifying, I know. So while trying to fulfill this challenge I realized how absolutely delicious a peach is in the summertime.
In the fall of this year I saw an artist of tik tok who thrifted frames for all her work. I saw how well they sold, realizing people hate finding frames for art and just want to hang it right away. So I headed to goodwill and started hunting! This has been such a fun, unexpected challenge for me as I too was someone who hated finding frames. There’s something about looking for a match, seeing past the weird art in the frame, getting creative, and extending my art prints to a bigger more unique piece… it opened up a new world for me. I also feel motivated knowing I’m creating a better shopping experience for my customers too.
So that’s how I landed on this years ornament designs. Each one has a miniature painting in a hand painted frame. No two are alike, making each one totally unique. They are signed and dated on the back. Collect your Art by Nems ornament today!
It’s been 5 years of ornaments, can you believe it?!
